Whoop-dee-doo. I feel like going through there and demoting everything. I barely ever read the comments anymore, and I have my threshold set so that I don't see anything that is less than a 5.
I just love the "Concentrate on promoting more than demoting" line. Everything worthwhile has already been promoted...
Really? I find most of the stupid stuff gets promoted. "Insightful" is their term for anything that's not a troll, even if it provides no insight.
Also, http://www.anti-slash.org/
The only time I find their moderation useful is when an article isn't posted on the main page, and of course is of interest to me. Only then do I feel like I'm making a difference.
I really wish that slashdot published the article and links via RSS. I read slashdot in a pretty stripped down fashion (light homepage, no slashboxes, no comments lower than 5, etc.), but I still sometimes get sucked into the vortex of reading the comments. Some of the things that get "trolled" are not, they just disagree with the views of a bunch of 16 year olds.
I agree that many things get modded up that shouldn't, but few things that should, don't. I tend not to read short posts, either, even if they are modded up.
**shrug**
Uh..... http://slashdot.org/slashdot.rdf
Also, http://slashdot.org/index.rss although I don't know if those are different.
And then there are those that don't read the post...
"I really wish that slashdot published the article and links via RSS."
Slashdot's rdf just is a link to the story on slashdot and not the story itself.
YM RTF"comment"? Bah.
